Now that Jordan Henderson is leaving, Al-Ettifaq needs a midfield player once more.

Undeterred by what appears to be a bit of a bust, the Saudi team might be ready to take a chance on a Liverpool player once more, with reports indicating that Jordan Henderson will be heading to Ajax in just six months after signing.

After leaving Bundesliga powerhouse Bayern Munich for €25 million, Thiago Alacantara joined Liverpool in September 2020, but it looks like his time at Anfield is running up.

Alcantara, 32, has made 97 appearances for Liverpool during a period in which he showed signs of promise. However, due to a string of muscular problems, he has frequently been sidelined and unable to play.

Prior to being sidelined for nearly the whole of 2023 due to a hip ailment, he struggled with hamstring, thigh, and calf. Alacantra, a former World Cup winner for Brazil whose father is Mazinho, is currently being connected to Flamengo in Brazil and Al-Ettifaq.

Naturally, Steven Gerrard, the legendary manager of Anfield, oversees Al-Ettifaq, who are now mired in eighth position in the Saudi Pro League standings.

Alcantara has long been admired by Klopp, who spoke highly of the midfield player in November. However, considering the player’s ongoing injury problems, Klopp might have to let go of Alcantara, “The player is simply amazing,” Klopp remarked at the time.

But recently, he has increased his alternatives in the midfield, investing €145.2 million on four players in the summer: Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Alexis Mac Allister.

In the meantime, Thiago’s contract ends this summer, and it’s unclear if he’ll get extended.
