Tottenham, who are not playing this weekend, have seen an increase in their chances of qualifying for the Champions League. The London derby between the Lilywhites and Chelsea was supposed to take place in the Premier League on Sunday, but it was postponed due to Chelsea’s involvement in the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool.

At Tottenham Hotspur Stadium last Saturday, Wolves handed Ange Postecoglou’s team their first league loss in six games. Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie both missed the match due to minor injuries, but Postecoglou will be hoping that both can play in the match against Crystal Palace the following weekend.

Spurs lost ground to Gary O’Neil’s team in the quest for a Champions League ticket, but Newcastle and Brighton have also found it difficult to catch up to Spurs due to their patchy play. Unfortunately for the residents of North London, Aston Villa and Manchester United have had a successful run of results.

At Villa Park, Unai Emery’s team defeated Nottingham Forest in a thrilling six-goal match on Saturday afternoon. Given their winning streak of five games, Manchester United’s victory over Fulham at home also seems probable, but it did not turn out that way.

Alex Iwobi made Old Trafford fall silent in the dying moments with a late goal, just as it appeared like Harry Maguire had given his team a draw by offsetting a goal from Calvin Bassey. With 26 games played, Erik ten Hag’s team is still on 44 points despite Man United’s shocking loss.

Spurs, on the other hand, have played one fewer game than their surrounding Premier League opponents and currently sit at 47 points. In an effort to close the five-point deficit, Postecoglou and his team will go to Aston Villa, which is a difficult destination after Crystal Palace’s visit.

Spurs might pass the Midlands-based team if they win the rescheduled match and secure all three points from that match. However, it seems like a difficult assignment. Villa has lost several times at home recently, which should at least give Tottenham hope that they can win. However, Emery’s team won the season’s rematch with Spurs and took home the three points in that game as well.
