The France great’s nightmare at Al-Ittihad has become worse when he scored an own goal in the AFC Champions League on Thursday.

In the second leg of their round of 16 match on Thursday, Ittihad faced Uzbekistan’s Navbahor, and Karim Benzema was chosen to start up front. In the second game, Benzema gifted Navbahor the lead by mistakenly heading a header past his own goalie during a set-piece. The first game finished in a 0-0 tie.

Benzema is reportedly not happy at Ittihad at the moment. He was linked to an unexpected transfer to Cristiano Ronaldo’s squad, Al-Nassr, in the Saudi League during the January transfer window. The former Real Madrid player was also linked to Manchester United, although the Red Devils quickly shot down the claims.

After the AFC Champions League match on Thursday is over, Benzema will prepare for this weekend’s match against Al-Wehda. They are presently 22 points behind leaders Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League, where they are ranked fifth.
