Sophie and Steve were momentarily distracted by the man that walked in. Brian was that kind of man that left both men and women in awe of his handsomeness. He wore some slacks, a casual t-shirt and canvas. His stride exuded confidence, flashing his set of perfect white teeth at the two customers who stared at him, mouth gaping, he walked straight towards them.

Sophie couldn’t help but notice the lushness of his fair complexioned skin, his black properly trimmed hair and the dimples that dented his cheeks when he smiled. She smiled to herself.

Steve just stared on, momentarily taken aback and in wonder as to why such a proper man was in the bar.

“Welcome, what can I serve you?”

“Oh no no, I didn’t come for a drink. But thank you.”

“Alright, so how can I be of assistance?” Steve’s curiousity was visible in his eyes.

“I am just arriving Harris-town for the first time and actually trying to relocate here. But right now, I don’t have a place to stay. I’ll like you to give me directions to any hotel around the vicinity where I can spend a couple of nights.”

“Oh, that’s easy. The nearest hotel is just two blocks down the street, by your right.” He gestured with his hand.

“Wow, thank you so much. I was almost feeling despondent when I saw the streets empty and all shops, closed. But after walking a while, I noticed the bar was still open. It was a great relief.”

“Yeah, that’s true. The town goes to sleep really early.”

“That’s an odd one. Where I come from, the town bubbles more with life when it approaches midnight.”

“Thanks again for your assistance. I deeply appreciate.”

“It has been my pleasure.” Steve smiled warmly.

As Brian turned to leave, a female voice called out to him.

“Sorry, I couldn’t help but eavesdrop.” She smiled shyly.

He only kept staring at her, wondering why a disheveled looking drunk lady will call out to him in a bar. Although he was used to how women flocked around him seekiing for his attention, but never in a bar because he had never been in one. At this point, irritation made him silent.

Seeing he was not ready to speak a word, Sophie continued…

“Don’t mind that I’m a mess today, I’m not always like this.”

He watched her try to tug a stubborn hair behind her ear.

“Okay, straight to the point. I overheard from your conversation that you’re new in this town and hoping to relocate, right?”

“Yeah, sure.”

“I know some real estate agents that can get you a very good accomodation in the best parts of the town. Houses that are capable of meeting your profile.” She smiled at him in the loveliest way her drowsiness permitted her.

“Thanks, but I have my contact already.” He gave her a weak apologetic smile and turned to leave.

“Here’s my card if you ever change your mind.”

She stretched out a small card which he took reluctantly. Without even a glance her way again, he expressed his appreciation to Steve and walked out.

Steve turned to her, eyes wide…

“What in god’s name do you think you’re doing!???”

“Bring your voice down Steve. I’m just being a friendly and caring human.” She smiled mischievously.

“From our last discussion, you didn’t seem exactly like a person who’ll want to help anyone, not to mention helping a man!”

“Relax guy, no qualms.”

“I can only pray so.” He looked at her, eyes imploring.

“Please don’t do anything stupid to that gentleman.”

“Don’t be paranoid Steve, I’m not a monster.”

She drank the tequila and hit the cup hard on the table top as the burning sensation hit her chest. She couldn’t tell whether it was the tequila that was really giving her that sensation or it was the joy mingled with hatred bubbling within her at the task she had to accomplish.

She knew she had to get that man to love her at all cost. He was just perfect for the mission — a repayment for the lost years. She gave a sly smile, savoring the taste of revenge on her tongue. It tasted delicious already!

How do you think Sophie intends to get Brian to love her.

Please drop your comments and let’s enjoy the ride.
