The USAID/Nigeria MSNS has been developed to align with,  and support Nigeria’s National Multi-sectoral plan of action for food and nutrition 2021-2025.

The  plan is to attain optional nutritional status for all Nigeria through accelerating the scaling up of priority high impact nutrition specific and nutrition-sensitive interventions as well as creating the Enabling environment for improved nutrition focusing on the most vulnerable especially women and children as well as internally displaced persons.

To achieve the goal of obtaining an Optima nutritional status by the year 2025 a number of objectives and targets are articulated as follows:

  • To improve food security at the national, state, local government community and household levels.
  • To reduce under-nutrition in infants, children, Adolescents and women of reproductive age.
  • To significantly reduce micronutrient deficiency disorders, especially among the vulnerable.
  • To ensure incorporation of nutrition education into formal and informal trainings.
  • To promote optimum Nutrition for people in especially difficult circumstances including people living with HIV AIDS.
  • To prevent and control chronic nutrition-related non-communicable diseases.
  • To incorporate food and nutrition considerations into the federal state and local sectoral development plans.
  • To strengthen systems for providing early Warning information on the food and nutrition situation.
  • To ensure universal access to nutrition-sensitive Social Protection.
