In order to clear the path for Eric Dier to join Bayern Munich, Tottenham has finalized the signing of center-back Radu Dragusin from Genoa.

After Timo Werner joined on loan on Tuesday, Romanian international Dragusin signed a six-and-a-half-year contract with Spurs. He is the team’s second acquisition of the January transfer window.

Ange Postecoglou’s top priority this month was a center-back, and Tottenham has signed Dragusin in a deal that might end up costing up to ¬£25 million, according to the PA news agency.

The 21-year-old is another example of the club’s tactical change from their previous transfer approach. He signed in time to make his Manchester United debut on Sunday.

Spurs have a reputation for waiting till the end of January to finalize their winter acquisitions; last year, they signed Pedro Porro with minutes remaining and signed both Dejan Kulusevski and Rodrigo Bentancur on the last day of the window in 2022.

Postecoglou openly expressed his intention to sign a second center back and, more importantly, to bring in new players early so they can swiftly adapt to his footballing philosophy.

The Australian’s ambition has come true, as Dragusin matches the type of player Tottenham is keeping an eye on under his direction.

Following his advancement via Juventus’ academy, Dragusin made his league debut in December 2020 as a replacement, replacing Kulusevski and Bentancur on the field simultaneously during his Serie A debut against Genoa that same month.
