The explanation for Robert Sanchez’s absence from today’s Chelsea match against Manchester City has been revealed by manager Mauricio Pochettino.

After Mauricio Pochettino stated in his pregame press conference yesterday that goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has recovered from his injury sustained in December, it was expected that the goalie will be named in Chelsea’s matchday squad for their match at the Etihad.

But in the end, the Spaniard chose not to travel to Manchester, and Pochettino has given his explanation.

In place of Sanchez, Djordje Petrovic entered the Blues’ lineup for their most recent game at the Etihad.

The 24-year-old from New England Revolution was signed by Chelsea in the offseason.

Pochettino stated that Sanchez was not present due to a personal issue.

“We had hoped to include Robert Sanchez in the squad today but after the press conference on Friday, it emerged that he had a personal problem which meant he could not be here with us,” the Chelsea boss stated prior to the City match.

When Robert Sanchez returns, who should start at center for Chelsea?

After Kepa Arrizabalaga went on loan to Real Madrid, Sanchez took over as Chelsea’s starting quarterback.

However, as was previously noted, the 26-year-old sustained an injury, which has given Petrovic his chance in goal.

The Serbian has truly not let me down there. For instance, people took note of his outstanding performance in a match versus Aston Villa. Following that game, Pochettino declared that he was performing “fantastically.”

Therefore, Sanchez will most likely need to prove himself before he can rejoin the team. Dropping Petrovic would be harsh, particularly for Liverpool’s Carabao Cup final the following weekend.

Petrovic, who was instrumental in Chelsea’s quarterfinal victory over Newcastle United via penalty shootout, is one of the reasons they are at Wembley.

We believe Petrovic should remain in the team until he makes a mistake, assuming the Serbian international does. He hasn’t failed Pochettino at all.
